Independence Center

Begun in May of 2005, the Independence Center is a joint project between the Veterans Administration and MHMR. The goal of the Independence Center is to provide consumers of mental health services in the Central Texas area the opportunity to help one another through the use of peer support programs. This program currently serves approximately 50 individuals each day.

Description:
Peer support in partnership with Waco VA, providing a variety of consumer support services through a drop-in center format.

Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Services Provided:

  • Support Groups
  • Individual Support Programs
  • Artistic Expressions Gallery
  • Outings
  • Games, Crafts and Activities

Eligibility:
Adults, 18 and older, with a severe and persistent mental illness regardless of who provides treatment services.

Method of Payment:
No cost other than meals, snacks and outings.
